We think causes that matter to the local community are important and offer our support wherever we can. Throughout the year our managed houses play host to a varied programme of community-based events, such as the Northern & Southern Quiz Leagues and The Pool & Darts League. In addition, our Head Office staff regularly support both local and UK-wide charity campaigns.
We would like to introduce Brearley, their first sponsored Guide Dog.
Born on the 7th December 2017, Brearley is one of 8 beautiful Golden Retriever x Labradors puppies. For now, he is an uncoordinated bundle of fluff but over the next few weeks and months, he will begin his transformation into a responsible Guide Dog.
Marketing Manager, Marie Kinvig explains ‘As part of our sponsorship, we get to follow Brearley every step along the way and we should receive his first official training PUPdate in the next few weeks.’
This is our first pupdate of 2018 and we have some very exciting news.
Our first Guide Dog application has been approved and our Guide Dog has officially been named… BREARLEY.
Congratulations to the many of you that selected our chosen name.
As per the guide dog process, we have to wait around 11 weeks for our little Brearley to be born and then we will receive a birth certificate and a number of photos. After 12 weeks, our pup will go to live with their trainer and begin the big journey into becoming a Guide Dog for a blind person in need.
It's time for our 4th PUPdate and we are incredibly proud to annouce that our total is £10,818.00!!
This is amazing news as it means we can begin the process of sponsoring our first Guide Dog puppy. The money we’ve raised so far is going to transform the quality of life for a blind or partially sighted person and we couldn’t have done it without all our team's hard work and the generosity of our customers.
It's time for our 3rd PUPdate and we are pleased to annouce our totat to date is a whopping £7,431.55!!
This is amazing news as it means we are only £2,568.45 off from sponsoring our first Guide Dog puppy.
Of course our little pup needs a name and to give back to all those who have donated so far, we will be sending out 'name our puppy' sheets to all our pubs and shops so our supporters can suggest names! Each suggestion will be £1 each, but all the money raised will go towards our first Guide Dog.
Another month has passed and it's time for our second PUPdate!
We are pleased to annouce that so far we have raised the fantastic amount of £4,597! We are so close to be purchasing our very first puppy so watch this space!!
Again all our pubs have really gotten behind this worthwhile campaign but a special shoutout to our top performing sites:- Bar T'at, Heron and Strand Street Spar!
It's been 6 weeks since we launched our Nominated Charity of the Year and we're incredibly pleased to annouce that we have exceeded our group target for the first month!
Our target was £1666 and as a group we have raised over £2,300 which is almost a third of a puppy!
We'd like to give a special shout out to our top fundraising sites; The Bear & Billet in Chester, The Central in Ramsey and our Spar store in Union Mills.
In the run up to Easter, all our Pubs and Spar shops came together to kick start our Guide Dogs charity campaign.
Kindly donated by Davisons Ice Cream Parlour, we had two giant Easter eggs up for grabs, each worth £99! As the craze for chocolate kicked in, the raffle tickets sold like wildfire with The Central selling all their tickets within the first week!
However, the real highlight of the raffle was the winner of one of the Easter eggs couldn't face the mountain of chocolate coming his way and donated his egg to the Children's Ward at Nobles Hospital!
We believe pubs are at the heart of every community and we aim to build and nurture these relationships through everything we do. As the Island’s largest private sector employer, we understand the importance of giving back to our local community and place our charity activities as a top priority.
We are delighted that our nominated charity this year is Guide Dogs.
Heron & Brearley’s Woodbourne Hotel in Douglas has been voted Isle of Man CAMRA Pub of the Year 2015.
The pub’s manager Andrew Harris said: ‘Being voted Isle of Man CAMRA Pub of the Year is fantastic news for all the team and something I’ve been working towards for a good number years. I’m especially delighted that we’ve had this recognition in 2015, as it’s my 10th year with the Woodbourne and the first year when a managed house in the Isle of Man has won this award.’
Employees’ outstanding achievements have been recognised in the Heron & Brearley Managed Estate Awards 2014.
Compèred by Manx raconteur Roy Moore, well-known as one of the ‘voices’ of the TT and Manx Festival of Motorcycling, and with entertainment by stand-up observational comedian Alun Cochrane, the black-tie event was held at the Gaiety Theatre on January 22nd.
