We think causes that matter to the local community are important and offer our support wherever we can. Throughout the year our managed houses play host to a varied programme of community-based events, such as the Northern & Southern Quiz Leagues and The Pool & Darts League. In addition, our Head Office staff regularly support both local and UK-wide charity campaigns.
We are incredibly pleased to introduce you all to our beautiful 2nd Guide Dog puppy, Amber!
Born on the 8th February, Amber is a Golden Retriever cross Labrador and joins her H&B brother, Brearley, on their journey of transforming from an uncoordinated bundle of fluff into a fully trained, responsible Guide Dog.
Without everyone’s hard work and support, we would have been unable to achieve our target of £20,000 and sponsoring 2 Guide Dogs so thank you very much!
Heron & Brearley has achieved its fundraising target of £20,000 for its charity of the year, Guide Dogs UK.
Marketing Manager, Marie Kinvig said; “Since April 2017, all our pubs and convenience stores have been fundraising through all sorts of events and activities. We’ve hosted pub quizzes, sporting challenges and sponsored fancy dress events and it’s been fantastic to see customers joining in and having a lot of fun while fundraising for this incredibly worthwhile charity.”
It's hard to believe Brearley has been with his Puppy Walker, Jane, for over six months now. We recently spoke to Jane to find out how Brearley has been getting on and what they have been up to.
Jane was pleased to tell us that Brearley is a soft, loving and fun pup who is keen to explore and always shows interest in training, which is lovely to hear. Brearley is a sociable boy and is great with people and children, although he can be a little 'keen' with other dogs, which has caused a bit of pulling whilst out on walks, but Jane has been working on this with lots of treats.
Brearley is now just over 12 weeks old and has been living with his Puppy Walker, Jane, since he left the National Breeding Centre a few weeks ago. Jane will be helping Brearley through the first year or so, and we recently caught up with her to find out how the pair ore getting along.
We would like to introduce Brearley, their first sponsored Guide Dog.
Born on the 7th December 2017, Brearley is one of 8 beautiful Golden Retriever x Labradors puppies. For now, he is an uncoordinated bundle of fluff but over the next few weeks and months, he will begin his transformation into a responsible Guide Dog.
Marketing Manager, Marie Kinvig explains ‘As part of our sponsorship, we get to follow Brearley every step along the way and we should receive his first official training PUPdate in the next few weeks.’
This is our first pupdate of 2018 and we have some very exciting news.
Our first Guide Dog application has been approved and our Guide Dog has officially been named… BREARLEY.
Congratulations to the many of you that selected our chosen name.
As per the guide dog process, we have to wait around 11 weeks for our little Brearley to be born and then we will receive a birth certificate and a number of photos. After 12 weeks, our pup will go to live with their trainer and begin the big journey into becoming a Guide Dog for a blind person in need.
It's time for our 4th PUPdate and we are incredibly proud to annouce that our total is £10,818.00!!
This is amazing news as it means we can begin the process of sponsoring our first Guide Dog puppy. The money we’ve raised so far is going to transform the quality of life for a blind or partially sighted person and we couldn’t have done it without all our team's hard work and the generosity of our customers.
It's time for our 3rd PUPdate and we are pleased to annouce our totat to date is a whopping £7,431.55!!
This is amazing news as it means we are only £2,568.45 off from sponsoring our first Guide Dog puppy.
Of course our little pup needs a name and to give back to all those who have donated so far, we will be sending out 'name our puppy' sheets to all our pubs and shops so our supporters can suggest names! Each suggestion will be £1 each, but all the money raised will go towards our first Guide Dog.
